Rita Agarwal MD is a Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology, at Stanford, Past President and a founding member of the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, Past Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and former member of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia Board of Directors. She is a member of the ABA Pediatric Anesthesiology Committee and an ABA Basic Exam Question Editor, AAP Committee on Substance Use Prevention, the AAP Clinical Guideline Taskforce on Opioid Prescription, and the American Medical Association Taskforce on Substance Use Prevention and Pain Medicine. Her passion is for education, appropriate pain management and advocacy for safer dental anesthesia, opioid stewardship, and substance use prevention. Her other academic interests include neuroanesthesia, mentorship, sponsorship, diversity and women’s issues in medicine and faculty development

Dr. Alrayashi is an associate in perioperative anesthesia and pain medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. He completed his medical school at Northwestern University in Chicago and then residency at NYU. He later went on to complete his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s, and completed additional training in regional anesthesiology at the same institution. He has a special interest in the use of ultrasound in the perioperative care of pediatric and young adult patients. This includes the use of ultrasound for the therapeutic treatment of acute pain as well as the diagnosis for acute pathologies. He has published on clinical outcomes in various regional anesthesia outcomes and reported on the use of ultrasound in clinical care. He has lectured at various national and international conferences and taught workshops in regional anesthesia and point of care ultrasonography. He founded the home analgesia program at Boston Children’s Hospital, the only of its kind in the northeastern United States. At present he is developing a comprehensive POCUS training program for clinicians at his institution and is the director of Regional Anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital of the Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Vipin Bansal is a board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, a Level 1 trauma center. He is the driving force behind the pediatric regional nerve program in the Acute Pain Service at Arthur Blank Children Hospital. He is an active member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia (ASRA), Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM), and Society of Pediatric Anesthesiologist (SPA). In addition to completing his anesthesiology residency and fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Foundation, he studied engineering at Cornell University and collaborates with his engineering colleagues at Georgia Tech. His main clinical focus is utilizing nerve blocks in pediatric perioperative care to keep kids comfortable. He loves teaching and conducts ultrasound guided nerve blocks workshops locally and nationally, using traditional phantoms and Artificial Intelligence (AI). He has won numerous awards such as the distinguished Humanitarian Award by his hospital and TOP DOCTOR by Atlanta Magazine. He also pioneered the use of neuromodulation to control phantom pain in his amputation patient and this work was published in Today.com and Atlanta-Journal Constitution (AJC). He recently finished his Emory Professional Leadership Development course and is looking for new ways to integrate different disciplines to improve perioperative care starting before patients enter the operating room.

Coming up on my tenth year in practice at a busy children’s hospital. Enjoy teaching residents and fellows. Primary areas of focus include regional anesthesia, neuroanesthesia and pediatric renal transplant. Learning to use the ultrasound beyond the block. Love sharing ideas and learning from my colleagues. Outside the hospital, busy myself exploring the world with my wife and two kids. If I get a chance to sit down, I probably have a guitar in my hands.

Natalie Barnett, MD attended medical school at the USC School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. She moved to NYC for residency training at Mt Sinai and then to Portland, OR for pediatric fellowship at OHSU. She returned to NYC, first working at Cohen Children's followed briefly by returning to Mt Sinai before moving to Charleston, SC where she is currently an Associate Professor in Anesthesiology at MUSC. Her clinical interests include pediatric pain medicine and regional anesthesia, and quality & safety. Other non-clinical interests include simulation-based teaching & the development of pediatric anesthesia simulation curriculums for residents & fellows.

I am a proud member of the Department of Anesthesiology at The University of Colorado School of Medicine and I work at Children's Hospital Colorado where I am the director of the Pain Services, and a co-director of our Wellness Program. Simply put, I am a full time anesthesiologist and blessed with a great team!

Dr. Amber Borucki is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist whose focus is chronic pain management in children and adolescents/young adults and reducing or managing pain from chronic conditions or pain that occurs after surgery. Dr. Borucki completed her medical degree at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. She attended anesthesia residency at the University of Chicago. She completed a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital as well as a combined adult/pediatric pain medicine fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Brigham Women's Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Borucki worked for one year in private practice in anesthesiology in Reno, Nevada. Dr. Borucki then began her 5-year tenure at UCSF as a pediatric anesthesiologist and pain medicine specialist and was the Director of the Pediatric Anesthesia Service at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. She is now a pediatric pain physician and anesthesiologist at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. She is the Education Director for Pediatric Pain Medicine. Notable accomplishments at UCSF include developing and co-chairing the UCSF Benioff Transbay Pediatric Pain Management Committee, serving on the Bridge to One Bay project to standardize pain care across all UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital locations, and assisting ChildKind designation (a prestigious designation for a hospital indicating that it prioritizes pediatric pain care). Dr. Borucki is a member of the medical advisory council for the Make a Wish Bay Area chapter. She is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM) and also will be the program director for the upcoming 12th annual SPPM meeting. Dr. Borucki has also served on several committees through the American Society of Anesthesiologists and California Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Borucki served as an editorial board member for Paediatric and Neonatal Pain.

Jaime Bosl is a physical therapist who focuses on pediatric orthopedics and sports medicine rehab. She has special interests in caring for young athletes with chronic pain, hypermobility disorders and scoliosis. She directs her department's program honoring an outstanding young athlete each month as well as helps coordinate the sports residency program. After earning a bachelor's degree in cellular biology at Black Hills State University, Bosl earned her doctor of physical therapy degree at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned the certification as a Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association. She is also a Rigo Concept (Schroth) Certified physical therapist.

I am a Pediatric Anesthesiologist with more than 10 years of experience. I completed a Pediatric Regional Anesthesia Fellowship combined with research in 2019. In 2020 I completed the Pediatric Pain Medicine Fellowship. Then I joined the Division of Pain Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital working with the Chronic Pain Clinic, Interventional Pain management, Acute Pain Service. My areas of research interests include musculoskeletal Ultrasound applied to diagnostic of chronic Pain and Pain Interventional management and regional anesthesia.

Dr. Michelle Carley is a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Dr. Sabrina Carrié, a graduate of Harvard Medical School, completed her Anesthesia Residency at McGill University. She further specialized in pediatric anesthesia at the Children’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh and in pediatric chronic pain at Boston Children’s Hospital. Currently, she serves as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist and Chronic Pain Physician at the Montreal Children's Hospital, also taking on the role of Fellowship Coordinator for the Pediatric Chronic Pain Fellowship. Dr. Carrié remains dedicated to providing compassionate care and fostering education in the field.

Education and pain specialization.

Dr.Chidambaran is an Endowed chair for Clinical and Translational Research in Anesthesia, Professor of Anesthesia and Vice Chief for Pain, Equity and Innovation, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. She is the Director of the Peds Pain PAL Lal for personalization and analgesia and PI of multisite studies funded by the NIH and other foundation grants. She is also actively involved in various national societies and currently Secy/Treasurer for the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, and Research Director of the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia Improvement Network. Her clinical interests are in pediatric pain, regional analgesia, fetal anesthesia and innovation to change outcomes. Her research focuses on psychosocial, epigenetic and immune research in acute to chronic post-surgical pain transitions in children and opioid pharmacogenetics

Dr. Chin is an assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University and currently practices pediatric anesthesia, both pediatric and adult regional anesthesia in both inpatient and ambulatory settings. She completed her MPH at the University of Hong Kong, her MD at Northwestern University, anesthesia residency at Yale University, pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Children's National Medical Center and regional anesthesia fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. She holds the title of associate fellowship director for the ACGME regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine fellowship and assistant director of ambulatory regional anesthesia.

Dr. Collins is a Clinical Associate Professor at Stanford University and works as a pediatric rehabilitation and pain physician at Stanford Medicine Children's Health. He is board certified in pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation medicine, and pain medicine, caring for children with disabling medical conditions including chronic pain.

Genevieve D’souza is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Stanford University. She is board certified Pediatric Anesthesiologist and a Fellowship trained Pediatric Pain Doctor and trained in Medical Acupuncture. She is the Clinical Director of Pediatric Pain Management Service at Stanford and is the Director of the Pediatric Anesthesia Resource Center. Her interests including Co Leading the Visual Pearl Series for the Society of Pediatric Pain Medicine. She is on the SPPM Board of Directors. Her interests include pediatric pain, anxiety, regional anesthesia, optimization of patients in the perioperative period, and adjunctive pain medications.

Rodrigo Daly Guris is a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

Dr. Amanda Deis is a recent graduate of the UPMC anesthesiology residency program and Children's Hospital of Colorado pediatric anesthesiology fellowship. She is currently practicing in a mixed-practice at Denver Health & Hospital Authority, in Denver, Colorado. Interests include regional anesthesia, sustainability in the OR, and international medicine. In her spare time, you'll find her enjoying outdoor activities, cooking, trail running, and spending time with her husband and two mini bernedoodles.

My clinical work, research, and teaching focuses on Multidisciplinary pain management with a special emphasis on minimally invasive interventional pain techniques in both children and adults. I direct the Pediatric Interventional Pain Program at Boston Children's Hospital and run its outcomes research projects. I am an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the Harvard Medical School. My background includes training in Neurology / Child Neurology at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Pain Medicine at the Harvard Combined Pain Fellowship through the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. I have a Master’s in business administration (M.B.A) through the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T) Sloan School of Management.

Robert Scott Dingeman, MD, MEd, FAAP, FASA is an assistant professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. His areas of clinical expertise are pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric regional anesthesiology and pediatric pain management. Dr. Dingeman received his undergraduate degree in psychobiology from Occidental College in Los Angeles. He returned to his home state of Michigan where he earned his M.D. from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing and Grand Rapids. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan, and subsequently finished his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Dingeman has a strong interest in medical education and is the former program director of the Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is currently finishing his Master of Education in the Health Professions at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Dr. Dingeman’s clinical research has focused on the use of regional anesthesiology techniques to reduce opioid consumption in children undergoing surgery. His recent research interests focus on using these same techniques to improve the quality of life in children living with life-threatening illnesses. Among his many professional activities, Dr. Dingeman serves on the board of directors for the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, and he was the program chair for the society’s 2018 annual meeting. He is an active member of a number of professional organizations including the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, and the International Association for the Study of Pain’s Special Interest Group on Pain in Childhood. Dr. Dingeman also serves on an international multidisciplinary consortium of experts who are creating global guidelines for supportive care in childhood oncology.

Coming from Texas, I would have never imagined that I would have ended up in California. My specific interests in biotech and technological solutions in healthcare play into my interests in the field of neuromodulation as well as pain education for both trainees and patients. I am grateful for the opportunity to practice pediatric pain medicine in and age where so many advances in medicine have continued to challenge our field to stay up to date.

Dr Lisa Einhorn is a pediatric anesthesiologist and physician-scientist at Duke University where she completed her residency and fellowship. She is also a faculty member on the Duke Inpatient Pain Service and practices pain management in hospitalized adult and pediatric patients with both acute and chronic pain. Dr. Einhorn is the director of the Pediatric Pain and Analgesic Trials Laboratory and the clinical director of pediatric pain at Duke. Her research is in focused on developing innovative approaches to mitigate perioperative pain in children to improve functional outcomes after surgery. She has received funding from the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia, the Society of Thoracic Surgery, and NICHD/NIH to conduct observational and interventional clinical trials.

Dr. Esfahanian is a clinical assistant professor of pediatric anesthesiology at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford. He is board certified in pediatrics, anesthesiology, and pediatric anesthesiology and practices as a pediatric regional anesthesiologist. He has an interest in utilizing regional techniques to enhance postoperative recovery and has presented nationally on the effectiveness of head and neck blocks, particularly for cleft palate repair.

Dr. Allyson Farran is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada in anesthesiology and is currently completing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Stanford Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. She completed medical school and residency at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. During fellowship, she has taken a special interest in education and acute pain management.

Dr Fernandez is a pediatric anesthesiologist and acute and chronic pain management physician. She currently practices at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Dr. Fernandez interests are in quality improvement, clinical research and women empowerment. She has been president of SPAIN and PCCG. Ken Goldschneider is Professor or Clinical Anesthesia and Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the founding Director of the Pain Managment Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Many years ago, he postulated that Charlie Brown had functional abdominal pain. And so he now joins his most able colleagues to present this workshop on the Assessment, Conceptualization and Treatment abdominal pain. Good grief!

Dr. Hagen completed his residency at Mount Sinai in NY, followed by a pediatric fellowship at U of M with a special focus on congenital cardiac anesthesia. He is currently the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as well as the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of baby-blocks.com, a vanguard of pediatric perioperative ultrasound & regional anesthesia.

Kathryn (Katie) Handlogten is a dual-fellowship trained anesthesiologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, having completed a regional anesthesia and acute pain fellowship followed by a pediatric anesthesia fellowship. She is passionate about pediatric regional anesthesia, ultrasound use, resident and fellow education, immersive technology, implementation science, and practice integration. She has developed a keen interest in immersive technology use in pediatric anesthesia and anesthesia training in recent years. As a byproduct of this passion, she established the DREAMS (Digital Reality Experiences Augmented for Medical Support) Initiative at her institution in 2024. This is a multidisciplinary group of nurses, child life specialists, administrators, and physicians from multiple pediatric procedural and medical subspecialties that formed to enhance access to and implementation of various forms of immersive technologies in clinical practice. She has also initiated partnerships and pilots to integrate artificial intelligence into regional anesthesia residency and fellowship training, assessing it both as a teaching and a learning tool. She has served as the Director of the Inpatient Pediatric Pain Service and Regional Anesthesia program for her group since 2022. She is active in clinical research and quality improvement endeavors and is developing a focus in pediatric regional academia and clinical immersive technologies.

Dr. Harbeck-Weber is the clinical director for the Mayo Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Center and an Associate Professor of Psychology at the Mayo Clinic. She is board certified in clinical child and adolescent psychology. Her clinical and research interests focus on understanding factors that increase chronic pain in adolescents and young adults and strategies to help adolescents and young adults experiencing pain and other chronic conditions improve their functioning. In addition, her research focuses on outcomes from intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment programs.

Stephen Robert Hays, MS, MD, FAAP (he/they) is Professor of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine and Pediatrics at University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry (URSMD), Director of Resident Scholarship and Associate Vice-Chair for Faculty Development in the URSMD Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine, and Director of Pediatric Pain Medicine at University of Rochester Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital. A native of Syracuse, NY and Presidential Scholar, Dr. Hays earned simultaneous B.S. / M.S. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry summa cum laude with Distinction in the Major from Yale University, New Haven, CT where they were elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa. They earned their M.D. from The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD where they remained for Internship & Residency in Pediatrics, Residency in Anesthesiology & Critical Care Medicine, and Fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia & Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Hays is Board-Certified in Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, Hospice & Palliative Medicine, and Pediatric Anesthesiology. Dr. Hays was appointed Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology & Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN in 1999, and promoted to Associate Professor in 2006. They developed the Vanderbilt Pediatric Pain Service and subsequently the Vanderbilt Pediatric Pain Clinic, and served as Director of Pediatric Pain Services at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt (MCJCHV). Dr. Hays received a 2004-2005 Vanderbilt Department of Anesthesiology Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching, as well as the 2011 Sandidge Pediatric Pain Management Award in Recognition of Outstanding Contributions to Pediatric Pain Management at MCJCHV. Dr. Hays moved to the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA as Clinical Professor of Anesthesia & Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Pain Services at University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in 2019, and served as Vice-Chair for Faculty Affairs & Development in the Department of Anesthesia of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. They moved to URSMD in 2024. Dr. Hays is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and a member of the AAP including its Sections on Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (SOAPM), Critical Care Medicine, and Hospice & Palliative Medicine (SOHPM). They serve on the AAP SOHPM Membership & Internal Communications Work Group, and have served on the AAP SOAPM Executive Committee. They are a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA), and have served on the ASA Committees on Pediatric Anesthesiology and Hospice & Palliative Medicine. A Full Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), they serve on the ABA Objective Standardized Clinical Examination Committee and as the ABA representative to the American Board of Internal Medicine Hospice & Palliative Medicine Advisory Committee, and have served on the ABA Standardized Oral Exam (SOE) Committee. Dr. Hays is a member of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA), and was in 2025 was elected President of the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM), having previously served on the SPPM Board of Directors and then as SPPM Secretary-Treasurer and then Vice President. Dr. Hays' clinical practice focuses on perioperative care of children of all ages, with particular interests in pediatric regional anesthesia, pediatric pain management, and pediatric palliative care. Their clinical time is divided among the pediatric operating room, the inpatient pediatric pain & palliative care services, and various pediatric outpatient clinics. Their research interests have included industry-funded pharmaceutical licensing studies of analgesic agents in children, as well as multi-institutional studies of potential pediatric anesthetic neurotoxicity. Dr. Hays regularly presents at local, regional, and national meetings, and has been a named author on numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, textbook chapters, and online enduring educational content. Dr. Hays and their wife Deborah have two adult sons.

Alyson Hermé is a Pediatric Psychologist at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Division of Anesthesiology in the Pediatric Pain Medicine Clinic. She received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Loma Linda University. She specializes in treating a variety of chronic pain patients across several domains including inpatient, inpatient rehabilitation programs, outpatient pain clinic, and pain focused psychotherapy. Patients that present for services vary across gender, race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status which has allowed Dr. Hermé to work with a variety of barriers that come up across levels of treatment. She works alongside physicians conducting evaluations for patients with pediatric chronic pain (initial assessments as well as follow up appointments). She also providers pain focused psychotherapy to patients. She provides psychological consultations for inpatient’s who are having a difficult time managing pain as part of the Inpatient Pain Medicine Service. Consultations can include hospitalized chronic pain patients experiencing acute on chronic pain, post-surgical patients having a difficult time managing pain, as well as patients presenting with new onset pain. Additionally, she is also a member of the Inpatient Pain Rehabilitation team and acts as a primary therapist for patients engaged in the program. Through her work across various settings Dr. Hermé has been able to garner a knowledge of what barriers can impact engaging in treatment recommendations across levels of care. Dr. Herme’s research interests include pediatric pain, chronic illness, anxiety, disordered eating, evidence-based treatments, and health disparities.

Kendra J. Homan, Ph.D. is a pediatric clinical psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of pediatric chronic pain and the association between pediatric chronic pain and comorbid disordered eating. Dr. Homan is the Clinical Director of the Functional Independence Restoration Program (FIRST), an inpatient chronic pain rehabilitation program. Her research agenda focuses on the psychosocial functioning of patients presenting for intensive interdisci-plinary pain treatment, identifying variables that impact the trajectory of change after pain treatment, parenting practices in pediatric chronic pain, and the impact of disordered eating on outcome among pediatric patients with chronic pain.

I am a pediatric anesthesiologist and pediatric pain management with a specific interest in perioperative pain medicine, regional anesthesia, interventional pain procedures, and multidisciplinary pain management.

I am a board-certified physician in both anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology. My main areas of clinical expertise are pediatric anesthesia, ultrasound guided pediatric regional anesthesia, and pediatric cancer care. Additionally I serve as the Director of Pediatric Presurgical Testing at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. My interest in pediatric pain management truly developed during my fellowship at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh where I learned to treat both acute and chronic pain from a multimodal, multidisciplinary approach. In my free time I enjoy exploring all that NYC has to offer with my son, traveling to visit family and friends, and diving into a good book.

Dr. Michelle Kars is the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, Northwell Health in New York. She completed her training in both pediatrics and anesthesiology at New York Presbyterian Weill-Cornell in New York, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kars is also the Director of the Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Service at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. She is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell where she currently serves as the program director for the pediatric anesthesia fellowship. Dr. Kars clinical and research interests include pediatric regional anesthesia, pain management, and pediatric point-of-care ultrasound. She currently serves on the editorial board for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine journal and is the chair of the pediatric SIG for ASRAPM. Dr. Kars is the program chair for the 2024 SPPM annual meeting.

Dr. Deepa Kattail is a pediatric anesthesiologist and pain physician at The Hospital for Sick Children and associate professor at the University of Toronto. She is an active member of the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine where she is currently an executive board member and chair of the communications committee. Dr. Kattail is involved in various organizations advocating for improvements in pain care at the national and provincial levels in Canada, as pediatric co-chair of the Ontario Chronic Pain network, affiliated with Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, member of the National Advisory Committee for Pain Canada and an inaugural board director of a newly launched non-profit, Pain Ontario. She was honoured as a 2023 fellow of The May Day Pain & Society fellowship.

Sabina Khan, MD completed her Anesthesiology Residency at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas in 2014, followed by Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at UT Houston/ McGovern Medical School in 2015. After serving as a faculty member at UT until 2019, she worked for two years at the only Children's Hospital in the UAE before returning to UT Health, Houston as an Assistant Professor in 2021. Currently, Dr. Khan is the Associate Professor and program director of the Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Program and is an active member of the Anesthesiology Perioperative Excellence Grand Rounds planning committee. Dr. Jamie Kitzman is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. She is also a board-certified Medical Acupuncture and a member of the Inpatient Pain Services at Egleston. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine. With his diverse research background in various engineering fields, he continues to collaborate with colleagues across academia and industry in medical device and technology development. During the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic and when a critical shortage of ICU ventilators was looming in the United States, he co-led the clinical team for the MIT Emergency Ventilator project (https://emergency-vent.mit.edu/), which published an open-source reference design for converting any manual resuscitator bag into a basic ventilator. This open-source reference design has given rise to multiple spin-off ventilator designs across the globe and continues to save countless patient lives in countries where limited critical care resources are available. Dr. Kwon is interested in building more resilient critical care healthcare systems leveraging technology that is actually designed to meet the infrastructural challenges in developing countries.

Dr Lazar is a pediatric anesthesiologist at Anne and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago where she serves as a co-director of resident education for pediatric anesthesia and is actively involved in creating and running educational workshops and new curricula. Dr Petra Meier Haran is a senior, full term Faculty member of the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine and an Associate Professor of Anaesthesia of Harvard Medical School. She has a broad spectrum of research interests in the area of chronic pain, pharmacokinetic studies of antifibrinolytics and local anesthetics, research projects with the local robotic research group, and national research projects with the national Craniofacial Collaborative Group (PCCG) and urology robotic research group. Sophie Pestieau is on faculty at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, where she is the Vice-Chief of Clinical Affairs in the Division of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine, and the Medical Director in the Center for Surgical Care. For many years, she has been an active member of the Acute Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia services. From an academic standpoint, she is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. Her areas of expertise and research focus on improving perioperative outcomes of children, by emphasizing the use regional anesthesia, multimodal analgesia, and clinical care pathways such as the perioperative surgical home and ERAS protocols.

I was born in Lahore, Pakistan, where I attended medical school and graduated at the top of my class. I then moved to the United States for residency training, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology. My career has been dedicated to academic medicine, and I currently hold the rank of Professor at the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University, Maywood, IL. Alongside my clinical work in pediatric anesthesia, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows. Over the years, I have also guided junior faculty by providing mock oral exams to help them prepare for the ABA examination process, aiding them in achieving this critical milestone. My passion for working with at risk youth and adolescents has remained constant throughout my professional growth, and I continue to focus on ways to improve care for the young adolescent and young adult populations related to chronic pain. My professional efforts center on using a multidisciplinary approach to manage chronic pediatric pain. My specific interests include cancer related, perioperative planning and functional abdominal pain, in children with an incorporation of interventional techniques. As medical liaison to the Comfort Ability Program (CAP) I am collaborating with our pain psychologists to develop specialized programs targeted at the abdominal pain and cancer pain related populations. In 2020, in collaboration with Dana Faber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) Orthopedics departments to work to develop the Clinic of Oncological Pain Excellence (COPE) program, which prioritizes a multidiscipline approach for manage acute and chronic pain management within the solid tumor population. My research interests are focused on the value of interventional that improve on the management of chronic pain. Specific to the oncology population I am interested in identifying interventions that can be incorporated before during and after cancer treatment that will have a long-term positive impact on pain control and outcomes.

Kim Strupp is an Associate Professor and the Clinical Quality Director in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado and Children’s Hospital Colorado. She earned her undergraduate degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI with an honors Bachelor of Science with a double major in Biomedical Sciences and History. She went on to medical school at the University of Wisconsin and completed her internship with a transitional year at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse, WI. Marsha Treadwell is a Professor In Residence of Pediatrics at UCSF. As a health services researcher and clinical psychologist, Dr. Treadwell leads an internationally recognized program of research focused primarily with populations affected by sickle cell disease (SCD). She has led multi-institutional, national and international, interdisciplinary teams conducting research on how social drivers, psychological and behavioral factors, and organizational structures and processes impact the health and well-being of individuals living with SCD and their families. Her program of research has allowed for the identification of risk and resiliency factors for populations made vulnerable by systems in both high and low resource settings. Dr. Treadwell has been Principal or Co-Investigator on grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the Agency for Health Research and Quality, and foundations. Dr. Treadwell leads one of eight U.S. Sickle Cell Disease Implementation Consortium sites, funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI). She also leads one of four sites for the NHLBI funded Recruitment and Engagement in Care to Impact Practice Enhancement (RECIPE) for Sickle Cell Disease grant, that focuses on engaging or re-engaging adults into comprehensive SCD specialty care. Dr. Vecchione is an assistant professor of pediatric anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins University. She completed an anesthesiology residency at Montefiore Medical Center followed by a pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital. She then completed a second fellowship in pediatric acute pain management and regional anesthesia at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is the director of the pediatric regional anesthesia and acute pain services. She is also the director of the infant spinal program. Her research has focused on the role of regional anesthesia and multi-modal pain regimens in pediatric patients to reduce opioid consumption in an era of an opioid epidemic. She has published on the use of ultrasound in clinical care for pediatric patients. She has lectured at various national conferences on pediatric regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine and taught at numerous workshops in pediatric regional anesthesia.

Dr. Mihaela Visoiu is a pediatric anesthesiologist with expertise in perioperative pain management and pediatric regional anesthesia. Most of her clinical time is spent in the operating rooms, rounding on the floor, providing patient care, and teaching and supervising student nurse anesthetists and anesthesiology residents and fellows. Dr. Visoiu collaborates with various surgical services to implement new protocols for postoperative pain control. In her research, she develops new techniques for the placement and use of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks in children, infants, and neonates and compares those techniques with established methods for pain control. Dr. Visoiu is interested in using clonidine as an adjunct medication for pediatric regional anesthesia and has investigated postoperative pain control outcomes and pain perception in teenagers and the transgender population. Her goals are to improve pediatric perioperative pain management, the safety of pediatric regional anesthesia, and family satisfaction with pain control. Dr. Visoiu’s research has been featured on the cover of the journal Pediatric Anesthesia three times (October 2018, March 2019, and January 2022). Dr. Visoiu has significant experience participating in and leading multi-center clinical trials to understand the efficacy and safety of novel approaches to pain management and has extensive experience in managing large grant-funded projects. Dr. Visoiu worked with Dr. Sadhasivam as a coinvestigator in his NIH studies and will serve as principal investigator in a funded pupillometry NIH study. Dr. Visoiu is also interested in advancing pediatric regional anesthesia education by developing ultrasound regional anesthesia simulators. In collaboration with the UPMC Department of Radiology and the Swanson School of Engineering and Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh, she developed a neonatal ultrasound epidural caudal block simulator for single injection and catheter placement (U.S. provisional patent application, due for nationalization 04/2024). This simulator was featured by Pitt Fall Med Magazine 2023 in the article” Idea to Reality.”

Dr Walia is an Associate Professor at the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine and shares a joint appointment within the Departments of Anesthesia, Psychiatry and Pediatrics. She is board certified in Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Interventional Pain Medicine. Her primary academic interest is treating chronic pain in the pediatric population and is the Founder and Director of the Pediatric Comprehensive Pain Clinic where she combines use of her unique board certifications in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Pain Medicine. Besides that, she also provides clinical services in the Child & Adolescent Psychiatry inpatient unit and the Adult Chronic Pain Clinic. Dr. Webb completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Colorado in 2017. She pursued fellowship training at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in Pediatric Anesthesiology (2017-2018) and then Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM; 2018-2019). Dr. Webb started as faculty CHCO in November 2019. In 2021, she took over as Program Director for the Pediatric RAAPM fellowship at CHCO.

Dr. Tracy Wester is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to coming to UNC, she completed her anesthesiology residency at Washington University in St. Louis, Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship at Vanderbilt University, and was a member of the faculty for several years at the Medical University of South Carolina. At UNC she is the Section Chief of Pediatric Regional Anesthesia and a member of the acute pain management team as well as Associate Program Director for the Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship. I believe that good medicine starts with a compassion for people and a mind to serve those in need… I began my journey into medicine as an electrical engineer. Intrigued by radiofrequency transmission systems and cartilage regeneration, I completed graduate study focusing on nanoparticles and mechanokinetic device design. I ventured into medicine with a mind geared towards research in pediatric outcomes and improving the anesthesia delivery and monitoring systems designed for smaller patients. My interests in quality improvement associated with regional anesthesiology for pediatric patients, led me to serve as the Principal Investigator for the national Pediatric regional anesthesia network (PRAN) at Texas Children’s Hospital, with a focus on improving pediatric regional anesthesia drug delivery and quality outcomes. As a pediatric regional anesthesiologist and pain management specialist it is my aim to advance the practice of regional anesthesia and pain medicine in infants and children through safe and efficacious drug delivery. The incorporation of new peripheral nerve blocks brings both excitement and responsibility among anesthesiologists. My expertise in regional anesthesiology has permit me to transcend the perioperative environment and form a collaborative network that enhances pain delivery streams for a multitude of children in the oncology and hematology realm. Equally important to the advancement of pediatric pain medicine is my role as an educator. Along the course of my anesthesiology faculty development, I have taken an active role in the teaching of medical students, residents and fellows through curriculum development, lecture series, workshops and interactive small-group teaching sessions. I am committed to advocating for student education while upholding the highest standards of medical care. I look forward to enhancing the practice of pediatric anesthesiology in continuing to learn from and with medical students, resident-physicians, and colleagues, reviewing the best practices and critically assessing the present standards with evidence-based medicine.
