Carolyn is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the University of South Australia in the world renowed 'Moseley Lab'. The focus of her research is on understanding the biopsychosocial mechanisms underpinning chronic pain, and translating them into novel clinical applications. She is fascinated by human neurophysiology, and uses non-invasive brain stimulation to probe brain plasticity, electroencephalography to investigate cortical activity in people with persistent pain and computer generated tasks to investigate working memory, body awareness, and early sensory processing. Designing research in partnership with people with the lived experience of persistent pain is an important component of current projects and underpins discoveries about what people with complex regional pain syndrome need to know about their pain. Carolyn has a clinical career that spans 30 years, and she currently contributes to the interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Service at the Women's and Children's Hospital (Adelaide), a service that empowers adolescents with persistent pain and their families to develop active coping skills through education, activity pacing and graded exposure. Carolyn has recently been the education chair for PainRevolution, a movement charged with changing how people understand pain in rural and regional communities in Australia and through which she supports local health professionals to become pain experts and grow pain expertise within the local community.

Katie Birnie, PhD RPsych, is a Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary where she leads Partnering For Pain, a patient-oriented research program striving towards equitable pain management for children through partnerships with youth, families, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community organizations. Dr. Birnie is the Associate Scientific Director of Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP), a national knowledge mobilization network working to improve evidence-based children's pain management through coordination and collaboration. She joined Alberta Children's Hospital as a medical psychologist in 2018, where she continues to provide clinical care through the Vi Riddell Children's Pain and Rehabilitation Program.

Dr Campbell is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto, Director of the Chronic Pain Program in the Department of Anesthesia & Pain Medicine, and Co-director of the SickKids Pain Centre at the Hospital for Sick Children. As inaugural Co-chair of the Ontario Chronic Pain Network (pediatric section), in partnership with the Ontario Ministry of Health, Dr. Campbell has helped shape a provincial strategy to enhance access to improved pediatric chronic pain services. Fiona is Past-President of the Canadian Pain Society and was Co-chair of Health Canada’s Canadian Pain Task Force, which has recently published An Action Plan for Pain in Canada.

Dr. Davis has been involved in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with chronic pain as a Physical Therapist for over 30 years. She has worked in multidisciplinary teams with psychology, physiatry, anesthesia, biofeedback and other healthcare providers in meeting needs for adults and children. She is also involved in research, education and presents at local and national conferences regarding applications of physical therapy with chronic pain populations. She has recently been appointed to the Rared Disease Advisory Council in the Department of Health of the state of Florida. She holds membership in the Florida and American Physical Therapy Association. In addition, she has managed a support group for individuals with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome since 2016.

Ross Drake is a Paediatrician who specializes in Pain Medicine and Palliative Care for children having gained fellowships in Paediatrics (2000), Palliative Medicine (2003) and Pain Medicine (2011) after he completed specialist training at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, Australia. Ross is Clinical Lead of the Paediatric Palliative Care and Complex Pain Services at Starship Children’s Hospital; both being the only services of their type in New Zealand. Amongst his clinical duties he strives to improve the recognition and support of children/tamariki & young adults/rangitahi and their families/whānau requiring palliative care and tamariki and rangitahi with chronic pain. He remains very involved in developing a national approach to both disciplines and works to improve the paltry resourcing to enable equitable access and service delivery for all New Zealand children in need. Dr Drake also regularly presents and teaches on various topics in children’s pain medicine and palliative care. More recently, he has been involved with establishing an international pharmacovigilance research collaborative, the RAPID Paediatric Program, looking at the effectiveness and adverse effects of medications and other interventions commonly used in palliative care and pain management.

Dr Fernandez is a pediatric anesthesiologist and acute and chronic pediatric pain physician. She is the current president of Society Pediatric Anesthesia Improvement Network (SPAIN). I have been a full time paediatric anaesthetist at the Royal Childrens Hospital Melbourne since 1995. My clinical workload involves predominantly general and neonatal surgery having previously been a paediatric cardiac anaesthetist for 15 years. I have had an extensive association with an adult hyperbaric medicine unit to explore the provision of hyperbaric services to children within Australia. My research interests centre on paediatric regional anaesthesia especially spinal anaesthesia. I am also exploring paediatric local anaesthetic pharmacology to determine overall safety of paediatric regional anaesthesia. I am currently collaborating with a number of paediatric anaesthetists to build pharmacokinetic models to test practices that either rescue or prolong post-operative analgesia. I am a research associate of the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute and a member of the Editorial board of Pediatric Anesthesia.

Ken Goldschneider is Professor or Clinical Anesthesia and Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the founding Director of the Pain Managment Center at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Many years ago, he postulated that Charlie Brown had functional abdominal pain. And so he now joins his most able colleagues to present this workshop on the Assessment, Conceptualization and Treatment abdominal pain. Good grief!

Dr. Lee is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine and the Emory Pediatric Institute. He is a board certified in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pediatric Palliative Medicine. He has an interest in pediatric chronic pain medicine, pediatric regional anesthesia, global health, and in patient safety and quality improvement.

Galaxy Li is a pediatric anesthesiologist and chief of pain medicine at Nemours Children’s Health Jacksonville. His clinical and research interests span from pediatric acute to chronic pain to sustainability and perioperative blood management. As a graduate of the University of North Carolina, he acquired his bachelor’s degrees with honors distinction in chemistry and piano performance. Li earned his medical degree at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He continued his training with two fellowships – pediatric anesthesiology with Emory University at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and pain medicine with Harvard Medical School at Children’s Hospital Boston. Dr. Li is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with subspecialty certifications in pediatric anesthesiology and pain medicine. He serves on faculty at Mayo Clinic School of Medicine and on the Board of Directors for the Society of Pediatric Pain Medicine.

Carole Lin is a clinical associate professor at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a pediatric regional anesthesia team member and the perioperative lead sustainability officer. In institutional and national workshops, she teaches point-of-care ultrasound, regional anesthesia, and sustainability.

Forbes is an anaesthetist and intensive care physician at Western Health, Melbourne, Australia, and an Associate Professor (Medicine) at the University of Sydney, and the University of Melbourne. He enjoys being involved in research, teaching and education at the hospital, university and beyond. Dr. Shreela Palit is an Assistant Research Scientist and Clinical Psychologist at Nemours Children’s Health, and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Jacksonville, FL. Dr. Palit obtained her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Tulsa after completing her clinical residency in Behavioral Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. She then completed her postdoctoral training at the University of Florida prior to beginning her faculty appointment at Nemours Children's Health. Dr. Palit’s research interests include investigation of biopsychosocial determinants of pain across the lifespan. Her lab is currently examining factors that contribute to resilience in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with chronic pain as they navigate the transition to adulthood. Dr. Palit plans to extend her work to the development of novel psychological intervention or prevention strategies to improve pain management and quality of life in AYAs.

Sophie Pestieau is on faculty at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC, where she is the Vice-Chief of Clinical Affairs in the Division of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine, and the Medical Director in the Center for Surgical Care. For many years, she has been an active member of the Acute Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia services. From an academic standpoint, she is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine. Her areas of expertise and research focus on improving perioperative outcomes of children, by emphasizing the use regional anesthesia, multimodal analgesia, and clinical care pathways such as the perioperative surgical home and ERAS protocols.

Suellen Walker is Professor of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, UK. Following roles as a consultant in paediatric anaesthesia at Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, and in Pain Management at Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney, Australia, Suellen has worked in the UK since 2000. Suellen's clinical activities include paediatric acute and chronic pain medicine. Her research interests include translational laboratory and clinical research evaluating the developmental neurobiology of pain, potential long-term effects of early life pain and injury, and neuropathic pain.

Since my fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital, I have had a strong interest in pediatric pain medicine as well as pediatric anesthesia, including regional blocks. I did a second fellowship at Boston Children's in Pain Medicine and stayed on the staff there until I was recruited to start the Pediatric Pain Service at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. My work at Mayo has been balanced between operative pediatric anesthesia and pediatric pain. This has led to my involvement in the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine, eventually having been president from 2021 to 2023.
